- Home — write a first relative (name, town, year) → Find records for this person.
- Find — click Open & check on a search link (opens your browser, then hands off to Documents to capture; a demo search may find no one — that’s normal).
- Screenshot — when you have a real hit, capture the result card.
- Documents — drop or choose that screenshot under Read screenshot (on-device OCR — Mac Vision / Windows.Media.Ocr).
- Approve — check the fields, then Add to tree (or Reject).
- Tree — Build & open tree → private chart on your computer (demo ends with Francesca on the chart).
Opening a link never adds someone. Searching never merges. You decide on Approve.

Home. This is Atto. You browse the archives yourself. Atto helps you organize what you find. Start with one relative. Type their name, a town in Italy, and a birth year — a guess is fine. We’re using a practice person: Francesca Costantino, from Sellia, born nineteen thirty-three. When you’re ready, click Find records for this person.
Find. Atto builds search links from what you typed. You open them in your own browser. Atto does not scrape. It does not add anyone to your tree. Searching never merges. Click Open on a link — FamilySearch, Antenati, wherever the guidance points. A practice search may find nothing. That’s normal. When you do get a hit, take a screenshot of that result card.
Screenshot → Documents. Bring the screenshot back into Atto. On Documents, under Read screenshot, drop the image — or choose it from your files. OCR runs on this computer — Mac Vision or Windows.Media.Ocr. Nothing goes to a cloud OCR service for this step. Check the name, town, and year. Fix anything that looks off. Then click Add person — once. That sends a suggestion to Approve. It still is not on your tree.
Approve. Nothing joins your family tree until you say so. Open Approve. Review the suggestion. If it’s right, Approve, then Add to tree. If it’s wrong, Reject. You’re in control of the merge. Searching and screenshots never write the tree for you.
Tree. Open Tree. You’ll see Private chart on your computer. Click Build and open tree. Atto builds a private copy with full Social Security numbers stripped, then opens the chart in your browser. Here’s Francesca — on your chart, on your computer. You browse. You approve. You keep the packet.
